The KL Down-Under Film Fest

The Kings Landing Down Under Film Festival started today in the KL Theatre with Marilyn's choice of My Brilliant Career as the first pick. Great film - I was engaged in every moment.

The next film will be Whalerider, hosted by Farnoosh

I have set this up as an event in the Faceboook KL Social Group to make invitations and RSVP easier. If you are not yet a member of the KL Social Facebook group watch for my next email on communications where I will provide the information needed to join the newsletter and Facebook group.

Coming Soon: Hilary Cooks- Class Two

Our own KL Chef extraordinaire is planning a second cooking class. Mark your calendars for May 3rd 2 to 5 pm in the Grand Room where Hilary will produce savoury sauces .

Details to follow shortly

Happy Feasters

The KL Movable Feast with a Twist

Our expanded and "twisted" March Movable Feast is over and despite a few hiccups (pre- feast not as a result of!) was a resounding success. We achieved our objectives of involving folks who had not previously attended our movable feast, and of experimenting with two simultaneous venues to accommodate more people. One of the twists was to draw names out of a hat in the hopes that there would be more opportunity to mix but luck of the draw - the randomness did not end up very randomly.

Most couples ended up at the same location- although we did hear rumours that Tricia sent Bob off with instructions tied to his arm as to how to get home. We also made sure that Fritz and Bob did not leave anywhere at the same time since we did not want another mysterious occurrence of "the missing shoe mystery". However since Sandra and the red stiletto heels were somewhere in Italy, we figured shoes would not cause a problem this time.

Twenty four people took part and two new neighbours joined us in the Grand Room for the dessert course. The appetizers were hosted by Heidi and Gordon, and by Fritz and Marilyn. We then moved across to 1515 where Catherine, Doug and Janet hosted one group for the entrees, and Terry and Marilynne Mitchison hosted the other group. Thanks to all of you for a great job.

As usual there was more food than couple be consumed though we all did our best to expand our waistlines. There did not seem much problem in consuming the wine which was present in even greater quantity. Well, of course no one had to drive home, did they?

Hopefully we will entice even more newcomers in the next event as our Kings Landing community/family grows.

Check out Linda's guest commentary on Shirley Valentine

King's Landing has an enthusiastic crowd of theatre and concert goers, not to mention fans of Hot Lucy.

Linda saw Nicky Cavendish in a staged reading of Shirley Valentine at the PAL theatre and sent her comments to me. Check out her guest commentary at Review From The House.

If any of you have events or performances you would like to write up please let me know

A Fashion Event

Last week our neighbour,Catherine, graciously hosted a fashion event in our Grand Room. Nancy Lord brought in rackfuls of her designs for the KL ladies to check out. I got there early and over a cup of coffee chatted to Nancy about her work.

Often, at a very early age, children may give hints of what will be their driving passion in later life. One hears of writers who wrote poems and little stories, or artists who compulsively drew from very young. Nancy told me that she knew from the age of 5 that she wanted to make clothes.

Although her company is based in Vancouver, where she designs to order and manufactures locally, she got her start in Montreal where she worked for a European line before being invited to design for Ports International in Toronto. After moving to Vancouver almost twenty years ago she designed for the Jaxsport division of Mr. Jax before starting her own company.

Her signature motto is "Clothing to Fit Your Soul". Working to develop a style that suits your character and fits within your budget, Nancy will create a single piece or a collection. I loved the feel of some of the microfibre and jersey fabrics she had on display.

For someone like me who is a reluctant shopper at the best of times, an event like this offered an unusual opportunity to have an experienced designer make suggestions around a suitable style for my build and lifestyle.

Thanks Catherine for the hosting and Nancy for bringing your range to us.

Movable Feast Reminder from Gillian

Well here I am in sunny California having been to a Tap/Ballet class for 4 to 5 year olds, helped get the house ready for a birthday party and then watched a covey of cute little kids play in a Bounce House, consume Pirate's Booty and banana cupcakes with chocolate cream cheese icing (yummy) and generally have fun.

We didn't have Bounce Houses and that sort of stuff when my kids were small but enjoy the video anyway. Watching the Bounce House expanding reminded me that I should remind you all of the upcoming Movable Feast. I will leave you to make the connection.

Please remember to email your reply and let us know you plan to come.
