Here's the line-up for the remaining films in the King's Landing Down Under Film Festival. All are in the KL Theatre 1-3 pm except where noted.
Tuesday, April 7: Whale Rider - Farnoosh is hosting. Paikea Apirana is the only living child in the line of a Maori tribe's chiefly succession. By tradition, the leader should be the first-born son — a direct descendant of Palkea the Whale Rider — he who rode atop a whale. However, Pai is female and technically cannot inherit the leadership. The movie is a beautiful story of her struggles to show that she is worthy of being chief.

Tuesday, April 21: Once Were Warriors - Susan Man hosting. This gritty movie tells the story of a dysfunctional Maori family and their problems with alcohol, poverty and domestic violence, a important insight into a disenfranchised people digging down deep to find their pride. A difficult film to watch but very well reviewed.

Heroine is an attractive young English captive in a Japanese POW camp and hero a cheerful Australian POW tortured for a simple act of kindness. Separated first by their captors then by the distance of passing years, the two are finally reunited in the rugged outback of Australia - to face a challenge every bit as demanding as their wartime trials. 1981 PBS mini series
